Review: bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss

So I got 6 of these in a set this holiday season.  So far I’ve only started using 1 of them in the shade Dreamer (it was one of my 5 products used up reward from Project Pan 2.0).  The set I got had 6 glosses, each 2.25 mL/0.07 fl. oz., for $25.  A full sized one, 4.5 mL/0.15 fl. oz., retails for $18.  This review is going to be strictly on the formula, but if you’d like to see a swatch of the shade I currently have open, let me know.

The smell is distinctly peppermint.  Not in a tingly, hurting kind of way, but it’s definitely there.  And I just want you guys to be aware of it if peppermint is not your thing or if you have a particular sensitivity to it.  These are supposed to be plumping, but I don’t see any plumping effects (which is perfectly fine with me).

The applicator is a doe foot.  I do enjoy the way that these apply.  The doe foot picks up plenty of product, although I do have small lips so sometimes it can be a little bit too much product if I’m not careful.  When I’m wearing lipstick I do apply it with my fingers and that works out even better because I can better control exactly how much is going on and kind of pat it on instead of smearing it on.

The thing that I don’t particularly like is that it is sticky.  Not overly so in a way that makes me want to give all of mine away, but enough that if I’m not careful my hair will get caught in my lipgloss.  The slight sticky texture does help this gloss stay put though.  Even with all the eating and talking that I do (and I do eat quite a bit), I’d say that it lasts about 2-3 hours.  Which I think is pretty reasonable for a gloss.  And it means that I can maybe use it up in a timely manner!

Overall Grade: B+.  I do enjoy not having to reapply as often (even though I do kind of enjoy reapplying lip products).  And some of the colors are gorgeous.  The stickiness is really what brought down the grade here because I adore everything else about it.

Review: Clinique Liquid Facial Soap in Mild

I’ve been looking for a good facial cleanser for a while now.  I’ve several and none of them seem to be all that effective.  This retails for $16.50 for 6.7 fl. oz. and you can find it anywhere Clinique skincare is sold.  I got this in mild because my skin is sensitive and the oily skin formula was just too stripping and harsh for my delicate California skin.  You know, my skin was never sensitive before I moved here.  It’s kind of annoying.

Anyway, this is a clear, fragrance free cleanser.  I do find it has a tiny bit of a smell, but it’s not unpleasant.  It just smells like generic soap.  I use this with my Clarisonic and it’s been working out perfectly.  So much better than the Philosophy Purity Made Simple that everyone on YouTube raved about working well with the Clarisonic.  That stuff just didn’t seem to make my skin clean at all.

Overall Grade: A.  I even think that once this bottle is done that I’ll be returning for more.  Which ever since I started my Clarisonic I haven’t repurchased any cleanser because none of them seemed to work for me.  So super job Clinique!

Random Thoughts – 11.28.12

So I don’t do this often, but I had a small announcement and I thought I’d just make a random thoughts post out of it.

I got an email yesterday from Influenster saying that I was going to receive a box from them.  I am quite a bit skeptical though because I can’t remember giving them my address.  And I can’t find anywhere on their site that shows me that I can update it.  If I do end up getting it, I’ll be sure to post pictures and short reviews on here, of course.  Have any of you received a VoxBox from Influenster?  What’s it like?

Anyway, other than that I’ve just been procrastinating doing any more work on the house.  This weekend my boyfriend’s dad is going to help us with some plumbing so I’ll have plenty of time to patch the hole in the ceiling and take down the ceiling fan in the office so that I can finish the last bits of primer in there.  I can’t wait!  Literally can’t wait until it’s all done.  Painting is the worst, but then I get to set it all up exactly how I want it.  Once I get all the money together that is.

Speaking of money, I have fallen off the Project Pan 2.0 train.  It’s all good again, but apparently I’m like an addict.  Do you guys know of any good Project Pan support groups?  I really need one.  I’ve punished myself with 1 additional product for each $20 I spent on makeup beyond the 5 holiday sets that I had allotted myself.  I can’t believe that it’s so hard.  Why?  I used to go all the time without buying makeup.  This is going to probably take me years and be mostly lip products, if not exclusively lip products.

Guess that’s all I have to say.  I’ll talk to you guys later 🙂

NOTD: Sally Hansen Salon Gel in Shell We Dance

This is a very sheer neutral. What I’d consider a wedding color actually. I feel very bridal in it. This is probably the color I’ll wear to my sorority sister’s wedding now that I think about it. Review to come on this new Sally Hansen formula.

My Holiday 2012 Travel Makeup Picks

I’m so excited for the holidays.  With Thanksgiving over with, I’ve already started hanging up Christmas decorations.  And now I’m going to share with you what I plan on taking with me when I go to my mom’s house for Christmas.

I’m going to be packing all of my toiletries in my Vera Bradley Home and Away Cosmetic Case.  If you’d like to see that, let me know in the comments.  Anyway, just in case you can’t see the picture, here’s what I’m bringing:

  • Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream in Medium
  • Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint in Golden (I use this as a highlighter)
  • bareMinerals Matte Foundation in Medium Beige
  • MAC Sheertone Blush in Sincere (I absolutely love this color!)

  • Tarte Eye Primer
  • Too Faced Eye Love palette (this was some Sephora VIB palette I got in a swap on MUA.  It just has a good color range for travel.)
  • Revlon ColorStay Smoky Shadow Stick in Torch
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner in Uzi, Empire, Zero, and Corrupt
  • NYX Slide On, Glide On Eyeliner in Sunrise Blue
  • Clinique High Impact Mascara (this is my absolute favorite!  Holy Grail product for me.)

  • Clinique Chubby Stick in Super Strawberry
  • bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie in Dreamer
  • Tarte LipSurgence Natural Matte Lip Tint in Hope
  • Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in Cherry Tart
  • MAC Tendertone in Purring

I can’t believe that I’m only planning on bringing 5 lip products.  That’s pretty much unheard of from me.  Project Pan 2.0 has made me really want to only take a few things of each to try and use it all up.  I’ll also be bringing nail polish, of course.

What are you guys travelling with this holiday season?

Review: FCS Mist Me? Hydrating Botanical Mist

Holy scent Batman!  First off, when you first spray this on, be careful.  It really smells highly concentrated.  I got it in Figs & Berries from their Fall 2012 line.  And at first I really didn’t like the scent at all.  I think it was just so overwhelming at first.  It’s $9.99 for 4 oz., which will last you ages.

After you rub it in or let it sink into your skin, it’s not so intimidating.  I’m still not sure I’m in love with Figs & Berries, but it’s definitely not so strong that I could knock out a horse.  And it does give a nice moisturization factor.  Is it going to keep me moisturized here in California or at any point in the winter?  Probably not, but for a light moisturization (say summer in Florida) I’d probably be able to get away with just this.

It’s just a very interesting product.  Do I love it?  Maybe not so much.  Part of that is because I didn’t pick a scent I absolutely adored, but the rest is that I just don’t have a use for it.  I’m just too dry most of the year.  In the summer I could probably use this on just my arms if I needed some moisture since my arms don’t tend to get super dry like my legs.

Overall Grade: C+.  I’m sure there are some people whose skin isn’t so terribly dry that this would be perfect for them, but I’m certainly not one of them.  I do think it’s a pretty innovative thing though as I’ve never seen a moisturizer in spray format.  Or maybe I just haven’t been looking?
