New Year’s Resolutions for 2013

There’s not too many resolutions so hopefully I won’t abandon them halfway through the year like I did this year’s.

  1. Try a new recipe at least twice a month
  2. Wear a piece of jewelry I made at least once a week
  3. Blog at least 3 times a week
  4. Post on my Etsy and Facebook page at least twice a month

That’s it!  What are your resolutions?  I wish you luck with yours 🙂

Review: More from TheGivingGirl on Etsy (warning: long w/ numerous pics)

So I know that I’ve already done a review on this brand (?) before, but this is for most of the other products in her line.  If you want to know about her regular hair ties, click here.  You can purchase any of her products on her Etsy here.

She has since added braided hair ties, braided headbands, hair ties with charms, bow hair ties, printed hair ties, and glitter hair ties to her line.  I’ve also finally got around to trying out the regular style headbands.  I’m not a huge headband person, but she did send me a pair of them with one of my orders.

So first off I’m going to talk about the regular headbands.  I’ve only used these in the capacity of pushing my hair back to wash my face or put on makeup, so my viewpoint is limited to that.  They do really well for my purpose though.  They don’t feel tight like some other bands do that are of this style.  And they do keep my hair away from my face long enough to wash it and put on makeup.  They’re great if that’s all you need them to do, but I don’t think they’d stand up to a lot of physical exercise (but again, I haven’t used them for that so you should try them out yourself).

Next up are the braided hair ties.  These come in sets of 2 or 3 and so far she only has 8 sets.  I think these are so much cuter on the wrist than the regular hair ties, but they are definitely stiffer.  This makes sense since it’s 3 of the regular hair ties braided together.  They look super cute in your hair as well, but do know that they don’t stretch quite as easily (which could be a good thing in terms of longevity).

Next are the braided headbands.  I believe that she only has a few of these so far and they only come in her combination sets.  I adore this one.  And if it was in more natural colors I’d wear it more often.  Please Jennifer, come out with more of these!!  Anyway, these hold hair back better than their regular counterparts.  I highly recommend these ones since they’re just so cute :).

The hair ties with charms come in a pack of 3, 1 with a charm and 2 plain hair ties.  I got the one with the snowflake since it was so adorable.  These act exactly the same as the regular hair ties.  The charm is cute, and I think a nice addition if you’re looking for something a little bit extra.  They’re definitely cuter than the TwistBand version of the “charmed” hair tie.

The bow hair ties also work exactly the same as the regular ones.  I just find these absolutely adorable.  Kind of childish looking, but I still love them.  They’re just so cute that I couldn’t help myself, I got a bunch of them in a custom order that I requested from her.

The pattern hair ties don’t have very many options yet.  This one came in a set with 4 regular style hair ties.  The pattern doesn’t seem to stretch out very quickly.  It stays pretty clear all the way through the time comes to toss it and start using another.

And lastly are the glitter hair ties.  These are really well glittered.  At first I was a skeptic about how well the glitter would show up and everything (her pictures don’t really do them justice).  This gold one is just so darn festive, although she did make 3 sets of Christmas themed ones that are adorable as well.  And, of course, that meant that I had to pick them all up :).  These are stiffer than the typical hair tie since there’s glitter weaved all throughout the hair tie itself.  The glitter does shed a little, but I think I was a little rough with this one as I was testing it out.

Overall Grade: A+.  I’m pretty sure it’s no surprise that I love her products.  They’re fairly inexpensive and super cute!

Have you tried any of these items?  Would you?

2012 Holy Grail Beauty Products

I just thought I’d pop on here and let you know what I’ve been absolutely loving this year.  These are all things that I’ve been using for at least 3 months, so that I know I adore them.

I’ll start with hair care:

These are awesome.  I really love the Total Care version of them best, but I’m sure they all work relatively the same.

Next up is body care:

I have so many of these Fortune Cookie Soap Whipped Creams.  I’ve actually had to stop myself from buying any more until at least March.

And now skin care:

Ocean Salt has been a favorite of mine for about 2 years now.  I use it about once a week as my facial scrub.  It’s awesome!

Lastly is the makeup:

Missing from this picture is the Clinique Pore Refining Solutions Makeup.  I absolutely adore this foundation.  It’s great, but you have to use a primer with it or it won’t last all day.

Most of these I have reviews on.  If you’d like a specific review on something though, let me know down below.

NOTD: Oh Christmas Tree

This NOTD was inspired by MissJENFabulous. I used the following polishes:

  • OPI The Spy Who Loved Me from the Skyfall collection
  • Sally Hansen White On
  • OPI Live and Let Die from the Skyfall collection
  • OPI GoldenEye from the Skyfall collection

I really love The Spy Who Loved Me. It’s perfect for the holidays, but not overly unique.

Review: Tarte LipSurgence Natural Matte Lip Tint

I’m absolutely in love with all of these chubby pencils for your lips.  I got this one in the Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Lip set, which of course as a major lip product junkie I had to have.  Normally this product retails for $24 for 3 g.  In the set you get Hope, a gorgeous warm rose color.  I’m writing the review for the natural matte formula based on this color, so hopefully the others with this finish/formula are all the same.

The packaging is great and really easy to throw in your purse.  Granted, I’d be very careful applying this as they are pretty pigmented, so you should apply in front of a mirror.  The product twists up instead of having to be sharpened, so that’s fantastic.

The formula itself is pretty good.  And considering that it’s a matte formula, it’s not ultra-drying.  I wouldn’t say that it has a moisturizing formula, but you can go maybe an hour before your lips feel awfully chapped.  I’ve always worn this with a lip balm of some kind under it.  I also normally put lip gloss on top because I’m not a particularly huge fan of the matte lip look.

Just a tiny bit on the color Hope (since this review is meant to be on the formula), it’s definitely MLBB and just perfect for every day.  And with a nice clear gloss on top I do feel comfortable wearing it every day at my relatively conservative office.

Smells and tingles of peppermint.  If you don’t like that, you probably won’t like these.  They are the strongest peppermint smell of any lip product that I currently own.  I don’t mind the tingle, I don’t find it too intense, but if you’re sensitive to that stuff I’d be aware.

Overall Grade: B-.  I’d probably rate it higher if matte formulas were more my cup of tea, but I just wish that these were a little less drying (I’m just picky like that).

Random Thoughts – 12.20.12

So I’m having some issues here at my mom’s house.  I just arrived yesterday and her keyboard really doesn’t like me.  As it is, I will be slowing down on the posting for the time being until I go back home to California.  Any non-NOTD posts that you see from me will probably be ones that I have scheduled.  I just wanted to pop on here and let you guys know not to expect much from me while I’m on holiday.  I’m not even sure when I had my first holiday scheduled post set for, so that’s going to be a surprise to us all.  Hope you all have a great holiday season and I hope you’re blessed enough to be with your loved ones this year.  Take care and see you in 2013!
