Review: Ajinomoto Yakisoba Fried Noodle Bowls

20130321-154702.jpg

So I picked these up on my last trip to Costco.  I forget how much they were, but I think they were about $12 for the box of 6 bowls.  This brand is only available on the west coast (CA, OR, WA, and NV).  And a glance at their website doesn’t even show these bowls as far as I can see.  Perhaps these are something new their just trying out?  Or does Costco do exclusives?

At first I was very skeptical of the whole thing.  I’ve seen my fair share of food, but this thing came out of the box like a frozen puck of noodles.  It didn’t look very appetizing at all.  I followed the directions though and out popped this:

Once I stirred it all up it tasted amazing.  Probably nothing you couldn’t get at your run-of-the-mill chinese fast food joint, but for coming out of my freezer looking like a hockey puck I was pretty impressed.  Now, that being said, I have since discovered that I have to add 30 seconds to the cook time in my microwave to get everything fully hot.  I don’t know if anyone else has that issue, but I don’t think my microwave is very powerful.

To be fair to my microwave though, I got it for free from a bachelor who lived in an airport hangar so what did I really expect?  And I really only use the thing to make microwave popcorn and soften butter for my cookies.  Anyway, I thought these were pretty good for something that I microwave for 3.5 minutes.

Overall Grade: B.  These bowls are worth a shot for something quick and tasty, especially at about $2 a bowl.

Review: Aveeno Ezcema Therapy

20130321-154804.jpg

This stuff = AMAZING!  Honestly, it’s terrific.  I first heard about it on YouTube from Jen (organizedlikejen, TheBusyBeeBuzz, myhousewifelife, etc.).  She and her husband have been using it this winter to combat their dry skin issues.

I’ve had my fair share of dry patches that come and go all year round.  There was one spot on my face that was really bothering me and I thought I’d give this a shot.  I used it 3 times and the thing was completely gone for good.  And let me tell you, I tried a bunch of stuff on it.  I’ve had similar results on all the other dry spots I’ve gotten since trying this.  It’s definitely my go-to product from now on.

Overall Grade: A+.  This is holy grail material for me.  I’ve never seen anything so effective.  I figured it would take a week to clear everything up, if it cleared it up at all.   This stuff cured my dry spots completely within 2-3 applications.

NOTD: Essie Penny Talk and Essie Watermelon

This weekend I was on my own and so I had a little bit of fun with my nail polish.

Please forgive the messy nails and the poor state of my nails in general.  I’ve been having a really tough time this winter combatting my nails breaking.  Even Mike commented on the sad state of my nails and he never mentions anything to do with my nails.

Anyway, Watermelon looks quite red in the picture, but it’s actually got more pink in it.  And Penny Talk is an absolutely gorgeous rosey gold metallic color.  Watermelon was 2 coats and for some reason I only did 1 coat of Penny Talk.  I think I must have forgot about it until all my polish was dry and then I didn’t want to start over.

And on my ring and pinky fingers I did a really simple nail art design that I got from MissJenFABULOUS on YouTube (here’s the link to the video I got it from)

Review: Nivea Lip Butter

20130321-154839.jpg

So I know these have been talked about over and over and over, but I thought I’d give my two cents too.  Everyone and their mother and brother and father loves this stuff.  And at first use I thought I was hopping on the bandwagon too.

Unfortunately, I thought that the lip butter name meant that it would be a great nighttime treatment to keep my lips soft.  And maybe that’s my problem.  Anyway, as a nighttime lip balm, this fell flat.  It felt really awesome when I put it on (nice amount of slip, felt comfortable, etc.), but when I woke up in the morning the effects of this were completely gone.  Now, at least it didn’t leave my lips chapped like another brand I’ve tried (yeah, I’m looking at you SoftLips), but I just don’t think it lived up to the hype.

Now, if you take it as just another lip balm, I’d say it’s pretty nice.  It works fine during the day when I’m awake and can reapply as often as I want.  And the scent is really nice.  I (being the lip product junkie that I am) bought all 3 of the scents available in one go, but I’ve only opened the Raspberry Rose Kiss one.  I’ll still continue to use this monsterous tin, and the other two as well, but I won’t be repurchasing.

Overall Grade: C-.  And honestly, it’s only that high because I can use it during the day time without too many qualms.

Project Pan 2.0: Update #2

So, this is just another update.  I’ve used up 4 more products since last time.  I’m also going to be telling you guys how many products I have to use up still.  This is an ever-growing number as I can’t seem to help myself from buying makeup.  I really am trying though.

1. L’oreal Colour Riche Balm in Caring Coral: wouldn’t repurchase, I just didn’t like the formula.
2. Fresh Sugar Rose mini: desperate to purchase the set of all the shades in mini form.  Darn you Project Pan 2.0 and not seeing it before I made my 5 holiday set purchases!
3. Bobbi Brown Lip Tint in Peony mini: wouldn’t repurchase even if it wasn’t limited edition.  It was way too gloopy.
4. Stila Lip Glaze in Blush: might repurchase, but not for a really long time.
5. Stila Lip Glaze in Starfruit: probably won’t repurchase.
6. Fresh Sugar Rose mini: same goes from before.  I really can’t wait to get all of them from this line.  And they just added a new shade that looks amazing.
7. Clinique SuperBalm Moisturizing Gloss in 02 Raspberry: I have another one of these.  They’re pretty amazing.
8. bareMinerals Pretty Amazing Gloss in Panache: It was a nice product, really smooth and glossy.

I don’t remember how many products I was up to at the last update, but I’m now at 31.  I have completed enough surveys to get a $75 Sephora gift card though, so those purchases won’t count.  This whole Project Pan journey is mostly about the fact that I spend way too much on makeup and less about how much makeup I actually own (although that’s probably getting a bit out of hand too).

Open Box: FCS Spring 2013 Soap Box

I absolutely love spring.  I just want to throw that out there.  And this box was just some pretty pastel goodness that made me wish that I lived in an area with 4 distinct seasons.  This season’s box was super cute :).

I love the attention to detail that they put into every box.  I mean, I know it’s just a postcard describing all the contents of the box, but it’s so darn cute!

The extra bit that they sent this quarter was a packet of seeds.  My packet was for wildflowers so I’m pretty excited to plant those.  Just not in my garden since I think I have a bunny living there.  Anyway, on with the actual products:

  1. The Birds & The Bees Bath Fizzy – This scent is just sugary sweet like candy.  I’d really love to try this product out, but I don’t have a working bath tub still 😦
  2. Late Bloomer Fortune Cookie Soap – I actually sort of liked this scent, which is strange since it smelled pretty much straight up floral to me.  They say that it is scented with Polynesian Hibiscus, ripe berries, white amber, and vanilla, but I really only smell the hibiscus.
  3. Down to Earth Tea Light Candle – This is their first go at a tea light candle.  They did do a soy massage candle once, but I didn’t get it so I have no idea about that.  The scent originally smelled very much like lavender.  Unfortunately while I was burning it though, it really just smelled like wax with a hint of lavender (not a pleasant smell).
  4. Dirty Hoe OCD Hand Sanitizer – This smelled like grass.  Fresh cut grass, but grass all the same.  I didn’t really like the scent, but that’s personal preference.  If you like grass scents, comment below to win this product!
  5. A Nod to the Hippies Shimmer Stick – I just want to preface this with saying that I love this new product.  Now, the scent I was not crazy about.  I don’t like the scent of patchouli and that’s what this smells like.  Or it’s supposed to.  Patchouli smells very much like a citronella candle to me, so maybe my nose is a little skewed.  I loved the hint of shimmer it gave me though, so I hope they have this product in other scents.
  6. Kiss My Vine Bath Salts – This smelled like a light strawberry.  I quite liked it.  It was a tiny bit artificial, but I could definitely get over that.  One of the nicer scents from this box for me.
  7. Honey-Dew Me Whipped Cream – I am so glad that my favorite scent in this box happened to also be the whipped cream, my favorite product of theirs.  This smelled exactly like fresh melons.  A bunch of fresh melons.  Mostly honeydew, as the name would suggest, but the others were all there too.  I can’t wait to get this in their sugar scrub to try out.
  8. I Wet My Plants Spray Lotion – This was another new product from them (along with the tea light and the shimmer stick).  And I have to say, it was kind of moisturizing.  Now will it stand up to this ultra dry California air, no.  But if you happen to live on the east coast where they actually have humidity at more than -5%, this is pretty nice for spring and summer.  The scent wasn’t my favorite, slightly floral with a large dose of powder.  It’s just not my kind of scent.  I do wonder if this product is going to replace their Mist Me? Hydrating Botanical Mist.  They seem like the same product under a different name.

So this box was kind of just okay for me.  Despite the fact that I love spring and was super excited when I got my box, it just didn’t live up to my high expectations.  The fact that I don’t have a tub deems 2 of these products un-usable to me.  And the scents were not what I was hoping for.  I am excited to see which scents get made into that shimmer stick though.  And I do really hope the Honey-Dew Me scent is available in sugar scrub form.

Did you get this box?  Do you love these scents?  What are you hoping to get when they finally release the new products online?
