Review: Sally Hansen Colorfast Tint + Moisture Balm

on March 6, 2013

Ahh, yet another chubby pencil.  We all know how much I adore Clinique’s version, so how did these fare?  Not awful actually.  I’ve been disappointed in the past by all the ones that the drugstore brands have brought out, and these were sort of the same.  You get 0.09 oz (2.7 g) of product for about $4.99, depending on where you buy your drugstore items.

I purchased the color Blackberry Honey (#50) as it was rumored to be a dupe for Clinique’s Black Honey.  Let’s dispell that notion right now.  This color is much deeper and a little more red in tone.

The color payoff is somewhere between the regular Clinique Chubby Stick and the Chubby Stick Intense.  And honestly, my swatch doesn’t particularly do it justice.  It’s much deeper in person.  Same tone, but deeper.

As for the moisturization, that’s where this falls short.  The color payoff is fine with me, but this stick seems to never sink in to give my lips any moisture.   It also seems to drag on the lips when applying it.  This seems to occur whether the stick is warm or cold.  Please let me know if you know of a way to make that stop!

Anyway, these are definitely not a dupe of any kind for my beloved Chubby Sticks.  Do I think they’re okay, sure, but they’re nothing special.

Overall Grade: C-.  I mean, come on, moisture is in the title and it doesn’t give any.  Color payoff is nice though and they seem to last on the lips for a few hours.
