Haul: Julep + bareMinerals Sale Items :)

So I was out doing some Christmas shopping and I found 2 beauty deals that I couldn’t pass up if you made me.  This is just going to be a quick post so that you guys can hop on these if you want to.

First I went to Sephora and I saw this little beauty:

Julep’s Mind Your Mani was on sale at Sephora for $29, normally $39.  It contains 3 full-size products and 3 nail masks that aren’t sold individually or in any other kit as far as I can see.  It contains the 3 Nail Moisture Masks, a Mighty Nail & Cuticle Serum, an Oxygen Nail Treatment, and a Freedom Polymer Top Coat.  I’ve never used any of these products before, so watch out for some reviews in the months to come.  I’ve just heard great things about these and I’m glad I got them in a set.  If you go to your Sephora these may be near the checkout line.  It’s so new that the sales associate that was helping me didn’t know where it was and thought they hadn’t gotten them in yet.  Anyway, if you’ve been wanting to try these products I think this is a great value.

The other deal I got today was from Ulta.

I got a bareMinerals High Shine in Moonshine for $6, normally $16.  This is just a gorgeous plummy grey color.  I almost got the 4 piece gift set as well.  It contains a mini Queen Tiffany eyeshadow, a small Golden Gate blush, a mini Marvelous Moxie gloss in Maverick, and a mini Flawless Definition mascara.  I decided not to get it since I have so much makeup already, but I was on the fence about it since it only costs $10.  What a great stocking stuffer!

Hope you enjoyed this tiny haul.

Review: Maybelline Color Elixir Liquid Lip Balm EDITED

Man, I was so excited about these.  I absolutely adore my Almay Color+Care Liquid Lip Balms, but they just don’t have a great color selection.  I first heard about these on NouveauCheap’s blog and I thought they were going to be the answer to my prayers.

First off, the packaging is so adorable.  And despite the fact that most people were complaining about it’s small size, I think it’s perfect.  It means a greater chance that I could use it up before it expired.  It’s a clear acrylic that has the product itself in a cavity that is the shape of a lipstick bullet.  Absolutely adorable!

The scent is a little off-putting.  Like floral plastic to me.  And I do find it quite strong for about 5 minutes and then it goes away.  It doesn’t bother me enough to just toss it, but I just wanted to let people know in case they are sensitive to scents.

The color selection is amazing.  There are 20 shades, most of which are without shimmer!!  Seriously, I am so against shimmer in lip products right now.  There are a few with shimmer though if you are a shimmer kind of person.  Of the 20 shades I picked up 2, but I’m only opened Rose Redefined.  I really like this color.  It’s a nice pink that is wearable for every day despite the fact that it looks a bit bright in the tube.

The color payoff of course will vary with each color.  Rose Redefined just looks like my lips but better.  It isn’t all that pigmented, but it certainly does give a tint and a slight sheen like a light lipgloss.  In the beginning anyway.

And now the most important factor, the formula.  When I first apply it it feels really nice, although a tad thick.  I actually don’t mind the thickness.  For me, a thick feeling lip balm does make me feel like it will be moisturizing.  And I think perhaps that’s why I like the Almay version.  The difference is that the Almay one actually seems to moisturize my lips and leave them feeling soft while the Maybelline one feels good while it’s on (and it only lasts an hour for me at most), but it doesn’t feel like it leaves my lips soft at all.  In fact, it may actually be sucking some moisture out as it leaves.

I’m not sure what I expected though.  They were just so cute looking and I got sucked into the packaging.  I just need to stop trying to get any Maybelline lip product to work for me.  Unfortunately the bottom line is that the only exciting thing about the Color Elixir Liquid Lip Balms is that there are a lot of colors.  Come on Almay, make more colors of the Color+Care Liquid Lip Balms!

Overall Grade: C.  And really, it probably shouldn’t be even that high.  It’s fine as long as you don’t need a lot of moisture, color payoff, or staying power.

EDITED 12/11/13: This has impressed me over time.  I am still not a fan of the scent.  I just don’t know what it is, but it’s not good.  I don’t know if it needed to “dry out” a bit or what, but now I can say that these are a solid B+ for me.  The moisture and color are pretty good, which is what I bought them for.  They no longer feel like they are sucking out the moisture from my lips.

Review: Lindt Hello My Name is…

So this is a different type of review for me.  I actually am not a huge fan of chocolate *gasp*.  Yes, I am that .002% of women that don’t find chocolate to be absolute heaven.  Lindt makes some amazing white chocolate though and when I saw the cute packaging of these I made an impulse purchase.

I mean, who could resist that packaging?  It just looks like so much fun!  Yes, I am a sucker, a sucker for good packaging.  Anywho, I’ll just get on to the review of each of the flavors that I purchased.

Coffee Blast – So rich in flavor!  And I really enjoy the coffee flavored filling inside.  I find this flavor is my second favorite.

Cookies & Cream – This was a nice cookies and cream flavor, but I didn’t find it was anything particularly special.  Just the same flavor as the Hershey’s Cookies & Cream bar.

Berry Affair – This was by far the worst of the bunch.  It was just the worst yogurt filling flavor ever.  The berry flavors just weren’t there for me at all.  If you like yogurt you might like this, but I certainly didn’t.

Strawberry Cheesecake – It tastes exactly like a strawberry cheesecake and the chocolate surrounding the filling is the usual Lindt smoothness.  Not my personal favorite, but it was tasty.

Coconut Love – Unsurprisingly this one was my favorite.  Put white chocolate and coconut together and I’m there.  There was a surprise for me (although if I had read the package it wouldn’t have been a surprise), there’s also a bit of pineapple in the filling too.  Very tropical and delicious.

Overall Grade: A-; For someone that doesn’t like chocolate much I did enjoy most of these.  And I will definitely be purchasing the Coconut Love flavor.

Fall 2013 Empties :)

So I’m back again with a billion empties.  Well, not quite, but I do have a fair few.

  1. bareMinerals Purifying Facial Cleanser: I liked this, not as much as Origins Checks and Balances, but I would purchase this.
  2. FCS Whipped Cream in Hunter Green: I loved this scent and would definitely repurchase, but it was limited edition.
  3. 100% Pure Honey Almond Nourishing Body Cream: Love this scent!  The formula was just okay though and certainly wouldn’t be enough for a California winter.
  4. FCS Sugar Scrub in I Scream, You Scream: I didn’t really enjoy this scent, but I would purchase the same formula in a different scent.
  5. Origins A Perfect World Antioxidant Moisturizer with White Tea: Would purchase if looking for a thick winter face cream.
  6. Satin Care & Olay Shave Gel: Not my favorite, but I would repurchase if it was all that was available.
  7. Herbal Essence Long Term Relationship Shampoo: It smelled nice, but I don’t think I would repurchase it.
  8. Tarte Clean Slate Poreless Primer: I wouldn’t repurchase this as I already have a favorite primer.
  9. Tarte BB Tinted Treatment Primer: I want this!  I absolutely loved this and I will definitely be purchasing it if I ever run out of primer.
  10. B&BW Body Wash in Charmed Life: Wouldn’t repurchase this even if it hadn’t been limited edition.
  11. FCS Whipped Cream in “I Yam What I Yam!” said the Marshmallow: I didn’t like this scent.  In fact, I didn’t really like any of the new fall scents from FCS.
  12. Clinique Clarifying Lotion #3: I’ve already repurchased this.  This is the best toner for my skin, but it’s pretty harsh as I think it’s mostly alcohol.
  13. Origins High Potency Night-A-Mins: I didn’t like the feel of this when I used it, but maybe it would be better in winter.  I wouldn’t purchase this though.
  14. CVS Cleansing Wipes: I would repurchase these, but they aren’t my favorite.
  15. Smashbox Photo Finish Primer: I would definitely repurchase this.  I love it!
  16. Revlon Lip Butter in Pink Truffle: I would definitely repurchase this lipstick.  It’s just the most perfect color.
  17. bareMinerals Original Mineral Veil: I absolutely adore this powder.  I have a lot of them now though in various finishes/formulas so I won’t be repurchasing it any time soon.
  18. Pond’s Luminous Clean Cleaning Towelettes: These are kind of drying and they make my skin feel weird texture-wise.  I wouldn’t repurchase these although I love the cloths themselves though.
  19. Herbal Essence Honey I’m Strong Strengthening Conditioner: I probably won’t repurchase this, but the scent was nice.
  20. Vera Bradley Unscented Candle in Hope Garden: I wouldn’t purchase, but I did enjoy it while it lasted.
  21. B&BW Body Lotion in Wild Apple Daffodil: I would repurchase this scent, but I think it was limited edition.
  22. Sonia Kashuk Brush & Sponge Cleaner: I would repurchase if I needed brush cleaner and couldn’t wait for the shipping.  I may try the bareMinerals one next though.
  23. Clinique Clarifying Lotion #3: Holy Grail!  I’ve already got another bottle of this now.
  24. bareMinerals Purely Nourishing Moisturizer for Combination Skin: I would definitely purchase this.  It just feels really nice on the skin.  It does smell funny for a few seconds after application though.
  25. Pond’s Original Fresh Wet Cleansing Towelettes: too drying for this season, but I love the texture of the cloth.
  26. Peter Thomas Roth Mega-Rich Body Lotion: I wouldn’t repurchase this.  It just wasn’t anything special.
