Quickie Review: Mountain Scentaments

Today I’m going to do a real short review of the Mountain Scentaments cold process soaps.  I purchased them on her Etsy shop in Morning Sunrise and Dreamin’ Daisy.

I loved the way these looked.  And Dreamin’ Daisy is a dupe of my current body splash from Bath & Body Works, so I thought it would be perfect.

Unfortunately, while they were cute, they didn’t smell very strongly.  In fact, Morning Sunrise didn’t have any scent at all that I could tell.  Dreamin’ Daisy does have a faint scent, but it’s certainly not much.

As for the performance of the soap itself, it worked out okay.  Would I clamor for more?  No, but I will use them up because they don’t dry out my skin.  I don’t find them particularly moisturizing, but they don’t strip my skin of all moisture, so that’s a step up from the normal soap bars you can get in the shops.

Review: Scotch Self-Seal Laminating Pouches

Yet another product from Scotch.  I seriously adore these.  They are quite a durable feeling plastic and make for the perfect flyleaf for my 2×2 Post-It notes.  I put a picture from my wedding in the one below.

I can’t wait to go out and get more in a bigger size!  Applying the picture to the inside of the pouch was very easy and everything went smoothly.  And I didn’t get any bubbles which is what I normally get when I try to do these types of things.

I can’t remember how much these cost, but I know I bought them at Target. They are also available at Target.

Review: Pilot Acroball Pens

Let me just preface this by saying I have never been one to just keep 1 pen at a time.  In fact, I carry 15 pens with me into work where I have another 14 pens in my pen cup.  Suffice to say I’m a bit of an addict and have probably tried every type of pen there is.

The Pilot Acroball pens are a hybrid ink.  For this pen that means that the ink writes like gel, but dries like ballpoint pen.  There are lots of different colors over 3 sizes (0.5mm, 0.7mm, and 1mm).  JetPens is a great retailer if you want all the options, they can all be found here.  I bought some of mine at Target and some at JetPens.  I got a 3 pack of the black pens for $4.39 and a 5 pack of 5 different colors for $7.29.  They are each $1.80-$2.50 a piece off of JetPens.  And I got a 3-ink multipen as well, it’s fantastic and only $6.75.

Writing with these is such a dream.  It just glides on with the first swipe of the pen.  Even after disuse for over 2 weeks (not that I would ever not use these for that long) they still write perfectly right off the bat.  These have quickly become my favorite pen and I don’t want to even look at all the others in my vast collection.

Overall Grade: A+.  I never want to be without these pens.  My husband even stole one of my black ones (darn him!) and managed to have it stolen from him.  As soon as you try these you’re going to fall in love, so much so that you may start stockpiling them too.

Review: AmbiEscents from Bed, Bath, & Beyond

So, I’ve been really into wax stuff lately.  I think it’s all due to My Random Favorite Things on YouTube.  And now I really want to buy vendor wax and support small businesses.  Anyway, back to a recent purchase of AmbiEscents products.

I was at Bed, Bath, & Beyond looking for a plug-in tart warmer and this brand had a lot of different options.  And by a lot I mean there were at least 6-7 options of just the plug-in warmers, not including the large variety of full-size warmers that they also carry.  Suffice to say, I’m sure you can find something that fits with your decor in this range.  There were also a lot of clamshell style wax tarts available in a wide range of scents.

I got the Swirl pattern warmer.  It’s almost the same color as the warmer I have from Yankee Candle, but this one is a cute little plug-in that I’m going to be using upstairs in my office.  Personally I think that a plug-in warmer is the best option for that room as I don’t have a lot of “countertop” space in there.  The little plug-in warmers were $9.99 each, but BB&B always has a 20% off coupon floating around (that I always manage to forget when I go).

As for the performance of this 15W lightbulb warmer, it seems to work okay.  I would say as good as any other 15W warmer would.  It didn’t work at all with my parrafin wax from Candles by Victoria, but the AmbiEscents wax (which I think is a parasoy blend) did just fine.

I also purchased 3 of the clamshells that retail for $2.99 each.  One of the scents I picked up though was on clearance for $0.89.  I’ll start with the review of that one.

  • Sugar Pine – this is an amazing smooth pine scent.  At first I didn’t think this threw very well, but it actually filled up my entire lower floor with just the 1 cube
  • Brazilian Sunset – I haven’t yet tried this one, so this description is based off of cold sniff.  I would say it smells kind of like a generic tropical scent.  Not too sweet or too acidic and absolutely no coconut here.
  • Peach Ginger Tea – also another unmelted scent that I will describe based off cold sniff.  It is quite peachy and I didn’t smell any real tea or ginger.

Have any of you tried the AmbiEscents stuff?  Any scents you think I should try next?

Review: Lindt Hello My Name is…

So this is a different type of review for me.  I actually am not a huge fan of chocolate *gasp*.  Yes, I am that .002% of women that don’t find chocolate to be absolute heaven.  Lindt makes some amazing white chocolate though and when I saw the cute packaging of these I made an impulse purchase.

I mean, who could resist that packaging?  It just looks like so much fun!  Yes, I am a sucker, a sucker for good packaging.  Anywho, I’ll just get on to the review of each of the flavors that I purchased.

Coffee Blast – So rich in flavor!  And I really enjoy the coffee flavored filling inside.  I find this flavor is my second favorite.

Cookies & Cream – This was a nice cookies and cream flavor, but I didn’t find it was anything particularly special.  Just the same flavor as the Hershey’s Cookies & Cream bar.

Berry Affair – This was by far the worst of the bunch.  It was just the worst yogurt filling flavor ever.  The berry flavors just weren’t there for me at all.  If you like yogurt you might like this, but I certainly didn’t.

Strawberry Cheesecake – It tastes exactly like a strawberry cheesecake and the chocolate surrounding the filling is the usual Lindt smoothness.  Not my personal favorite, but it was tasty.

Coconut Love – Unsurprisingly this one was my favorite.  Put white chocolate and coconut together and I’m there.  There was a surprise for me (although if I had read the package it wouldn’t have been a surprise), there’s also a bit of pineapple in the filling too.  Very tropical and delicious.

Overall Grade: A-; For someone that doesn’t like chocolate much I did enjoy most of these.  And I will definitely be purchasing the Coconut Love flavor.

Review: Quaker Real Medleys Bars

These are magnificent.  I saw them a few weeks ago and just had to try the Peach Almond kind.

There are 3 different kinds: Cherry Pistachio, Apple Nut Harvest, and Peach Almond.  Peach Almond is by far my favorite, but they are all amazing.  These aren’t all that healthy for you, despite the fact that they actually do look kind of health food-esque.  I find them to be quite filling though as a breakfast on the go, so I’ll definitely keep buying them.

Cherry Pistachio has 170 calories, 12 g of sugar, 0.5 g of saturated fat, and 85 mg of sodium.  These are the least sugary tasting.  I love the slight tartness that the cherries give it.

Apple Nut Harvest has 160 calories, 14 g of sugar, 1 g of saturated fat, and 80 mg of sodium.  These ones taste like a bowl of cinnamon apple oatmeal.  Super tasty and very juicy tasting.

Peach Almond has 160 calories, 14 g of sugar, 0.5 g of saturated fat, and 75 mg of sodium.  These are so deliciously tasty.  I find they actually taste a little more like an apricot to me, but that could just be me.

Have you tried these?  What did you think?  Will you be trying them?
